July has been huge for Nigerian Afrobeat music. Google Nigeria, this Wednesday announced its partnership with Nigerian artist Mr Eazi’s EmPawa Africa which supports emerging talent in Nigeria. YouTube’s global head of music, Lyor Cohen, Mr Eazi, R&B Legend, Akon, Big Brother Naija Bisola Aiyeola, Teni Entertainment and other influencers were also at the #googleforNigeria event. Burnaboy released his album African Giant. Beyonce released her African collaboration album which featured artists like Burnaboy, Yemi Alade, Wizkid. Davido released his Chris Brown feature single. So many notable moments.

With all this happening, there is a lot of music to keep on replay, not only to support Afrobeat but to bop to – period.

1. Soapy – Naira Marley

This Friday at the Chris Brown and Davido “Blow my Mind” listening party, the US singer could not help dancing to soapy and honestly, same. Although the song was released at the end of June, it gained popularity for its vulgar dance (It was publicly condemned by Guinness record breaker and Nigeria’s dance queen Kaffy.) and catchy tune in July of 2019. Stream soapy on youtube here.

2. Anybody – Burnaboy

No one can deny Burnaboy is currently the hottest Afrobeats artist, he has appeared on Billboard, performed at Coachella, appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last week (we talked about it here) and had a single on Beyonce’s album “The Gift”. His whole album is full of bops, but this week we are listening to “Anybody”. Stream his live performance of the song on Jimmy Kimmel here:

3. Brownskin girl – Beyonce ft Wizkid

We really should say Wizkid ft Beyonce, as the star boy lent most of the vocals and verses on this song. The song has inspired the hashtag #brownskingirls

Stream the song on youtube here

4. DIS LOVE – DJ SPINALL FT WIZKID AND TIWA SAVAGE

Wizkid reappears on this list with DJ Spinall and Tiwa Savage in newly released single “Dis Love”.

Aside, Mama Jamjam had a go with Twitter trolls on Sunday, see the savage responses:

Looks like we both missing prick, f$ck outta my timeline. Leaky ass https://t.co/FYY8h4xss8

6. BLOW MY MIND – DAVIDO AND CHRIS BROWN
