The deadly Coronavirus hits Lagos, Nigeria as the city records its first confirmed case on 28th Friday morning. The virus’ death toll which was just at 308 at the beginning of the month has risen to almost 3,000 in less than 30 days. It becomes one of the fastest spreading recorded viruses.
The new case, in particular, is recorded in Italian citizen who travelled to Lagos, Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, is the first confirmed case of coronavirus in sub-Saharan Africa, according to cnn.com.
All hopes for containing the virus despair as California marks its first case of the virus in a patient with no known travel history.
Authorities say he is stable with no serious symptoms and is being treated at a hospital in the city.
Elsewhere on the continent, Algeria and Egypt have also confirmed cases of the disease.
The World Health Organization (WHO) had warned that Africa’s “fragile health systems” meant the threat posed by the virus was “considerable”.
