Luke Montgomery played on AAU team with Bronny James before 4-star DL ranking – here’s more to know about him. Luke Montgomery is the #53 prospect in 2023 and #5 offensive tackle, he is from Findlay, Ohio, and is listed at 6 feet, 5 inches, and 260 pounds.
On Tuesday 29th June 2021 when he narrowed his list to Michigan State, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Stanford, Ohio State, Tennessee, Penn State, Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, and Clemson, multiple major news platforms carried the story. So who is Luke Montgomery?
His father Mike Montgomery played for Miami University from 1996 – 2000.
247sports details much of his earlier life saying, Although his father Mike Montgomery is 6-foot-2, his grandfather on his mother’s side is 6-foot-8. He grew up big and it seemed he would potentially build a collegiate future on the basketball court.
It seemed to be a plausible path for Montgomery dating back to the sixth grade. After competing against the LeBron James-led AAU basketball team that year in Columbus and Chicago, Luke Montgomery’s performance landed him a spot with James and his North Coast Blue Chips the following year.
It was unexpected at the time, and the 2023 recruit didn’t switch teams until he hit the seventh grade. But his dad Mike Montgomery was thrilled with what would become an epic two-year adventure.
“They saw Luke and the coach came over to me and said, ‘we want Luke on our team,’ Mike Montgomery recalled.
“At the end of the year, they called me back and we went over to Akron at St. Vincent-St. Mary and did a tryout. And LeBron walks in there and Luke is doing his thing.
“Luke lived a different life…In his seventh-grade season and eighth grade, our lives sped up really fast. We traveled all over the country with LeBron’s team. That was quite an experience, to say the least. He was obviously selected because he was best at basketball at a younger age.”
Until that year – Luke Montgomery’s seventh-grade year – he hadn’t played football. But once he strapped on a helmet and went to battle in the trenches of his Ohio middle school league, it was clear that he may have had an equally bright future in football.
“In seventh grade – eighth grade, he got better, and now, he’s really become a force in football,” Mike Montgomery said.
“I always look at 6-8 as the number. If you get to 6-8-plus, you can play high-level basketball as a four or five. If you stay around 6-5 to 6-7, you can play Power Five football. And that’s where we’re at right now with Luke.”
What was once a promising secondary sport has transformed into what’s becoming an elite college football scholarship offer list.
