Security Operatives Take Over Lekki Tollgate Ahead Of #EndSARS Memorial Protest. In October 2020, the youth of Nigeria came together to do something brave. They stood up to the government to end a violent arm of the government known as SARS. The government responded with a violent display by armed forces that was later swept underneath the rug after theatrics.

Till today, there has been no justice meated out to those who carried out the act and the government still denies, “who gave the order?“. However one year later and no one has been brought to justice.

Nigerians have not lost hope for a resolution and thriving for a better country with economic growth, justice and fairness as evidenced by the rallying Biafran Nation and a peaceful rally being organized in memory of the lives lost.

According to a report by Sahara Reporters, 3 days ago, Nigerian Artiste Falz rallied for the youth to disregard threats made by the Nigerian government and participate in a rally at the Lekki Tollgate to demand justice and good governance.

He said in pidgin English, “October 20 don dey come like this, for your information, police commissioner say make we stay inside, una hear abi una no hear? Them go dey disguise. They said on that very day, make we no commot. Dem dey craze? No matter how many them be. As I dey talk to you now, police don station for toll gate. Una go commot abi una no go commot? They no born them… (October 20 is coming; for your information, the police commissioner has said we should stay inside. Have you heard that? They said on that day, we should not go out to protest; they are crazy. It does not matter how many police personnel they bring. Already, police officers have been stationed at Lekki Toll Gate. Will you go out to protest or not? They dare not…)”

In anticipation for any violence, the Nigerian government has responded by placing heavily armed forces at the toll gate and Pulse Nigeria is already reporting people being arrested for making any comments against the government as well as protesters being dispersed with tear gas.

Alongside the rally are those who are using the one-year memorial to highlight the other side of violence that was brought on by looters and hoodlums who used the protest as an opportunity to destroy and attack people.

  • There were reportedly Over 1 Billion Naira worth of properties were destroyed, with less than 10% of the carnage back into operation till now.
  • Many private businesses collapsed because of some hoodlums that were out to kill, steal and destroy.
  • Police officers were murdered.
